Well today was certainly an interesting weather day, nothing like moving hay and pumpkins through slush to make one feel like fall! Well, snow be darned, we’re game for tomorrow if you are. Of course we have some vendors who come from a bit more north than we do, so please stay tuned in the morning for news on whether we can celebrate one of our favorite holidays and the very last day of our season tomorrow, Sunday October 30th. Fulton Stall Market is shaded. We’ve covered every week by the awning of the Fulton Market Building. Our vendors relish the shade every week but our customers will appreciate it this weekend. As temps have soared in NYC these past few days, make a point on Sunday to give your A/C a much-needed break and cool off with us at the Seaport, in the shade.

This article features a selection of our vendors including the fresh breads and treats of Grandaisy Bakery, local produce of Migliorelli Farm, pickled goodness from Sour Puss Pickles and original art of Naima Rauam. It is a real honor to be mentioned alongside such market big names as Smorgasburg. Our market is so tiny and tucked away, which is really what makes it different from all of the competition, and we know there is lots of competition.

Beat the Heat with Live Music & Good Food

With a gorgeous day ahead (clear and 82), a full vendor lineup (including old fashioned sodas, local produce, fresh juices, ice cream sandwiches, iced coffee, grass-fed burgers, local wine, et al) and live music this afternoon, we can’t think of a better day to scrap your plans and head down downtown. Maybe try hopping on the East River Ferry and walking up from Pier 11. Or walk the bridge for the scenic route plus exercise.

At 2pm join us for a live music. Bill Pearis, curator of our own Sound Bites series, will DJ for a bit, then My Teenage Stride will play around 3pm. Bill interviewed the band on all things food and music, read it here on his blog. Apparently cheese and onions was the resounding theme. The rest of the series features:

Kids are getting all of the attention lately. One of our favorite vendors, Brewla Bars, was tagged in Daily Candy Kids today! Congrats. Here is what they have to say about Rebecca’s creative and delicious frozen treats:

“We thought we’d never utter the words, but it is possible to have too much ice cream. Rhubarb Rhubarb Everywhere, Plus Today’s Specials

At my local farmer’s market yesterday, bright rhubarb spears seems to spring from every table. At our own market, Red Jacket’s heaping pail on our opening weekend had me thinking pie. I knew the pre-made Pillsbury crust my mom left in my freezer wouldn’t cut it but the lesson on leaf lard and pie dough I read was too labor intensive for my summer cooking style. I might have lucked out.

My friend Ilene splits her pork CSA with me from Flying Pigs Farm. Turns out rendering the lard isn’t necessary as the pickup this week including pre-made pie dough (no Pillsbury here, sorry Mom). So a rhubarb pie might be on the agenda for this week after all. I am gonna try this recipe from the Times (as tagged via Amanda Hesser’s Twitter feed @amandahesser).

Today at the market spend $25 with NYFarm2Door and get 10% off; spend $50 and get 20% off. We’ll be grilling their dogs and burgers again this week topped with Sour Puss Pickles and Migliorelli’s lettuce. I hear Grandaisy Buns might make an appearance. Welcome back 2010 vendor Brown Bag Bakery this weekend. Liz is bringing Bacon Cheddar Scones and Bourbon Almond Tarts for you. See you today at the market.

Ice Cream Sandwiches from Coolhaus

Market season has finally sprung at the Fulton Market Building. This season we’ve revamped our look (at the market and online) and are focusing on the history, community and sense of place that defines the Seaport Historic

District and the surrounding area. I keep bothering my resident historian and Seaport expert, Naima Rauam, for details and tidbits about the Fulton Market Building and it’s predecessors that have stood on this block for almost two centuries.

Adding to our new design we’re welcoming new vendors this season like Coolhaus, Red Jacket Orchards, Grandaisy Bakery, and NY Farm 2 Door. Favorites from last year like Migliorelli Farm, Brewla Bars, Yummy Coffee and Sour Puss Pickles can round out your Memorial Day picnic shopping. Check the updated vendor list weekly for changes and additions.

New Season, New Look, New Vendors!

We’re coming out of hibernation. When I leave my office this week it’s still light out – hooray! We’re really starting to budget, work furiously and plan for our busy summer of outdoor events. I don’t fly south for the winter but I do take weekends and Mondays off. Not any more.

The market is top of the list. New fixtures and furniture are presently being designed and built. A new look is in the works for both the brick-and-mortar market, the site and the logo. We’re working with our sponsors to access the fish stalls themselves, improve the lighting and make them usable for both display AND storage by our vendors this year. It should be great.
